The Richmond County Schools have partnered with the business community to truly bring work experience to the classrooms. Through a JobReady grant, teachers from all grade levels were "hired" for a week to work in area businesses to determine skills necessary to perform in the workplace. Each teacher made a report to their experience and was required to apply the experience they gained to the classroom for more effective and applicable learning. Every participating teacher found the experience to be extremely rewarding and learned new methods of applied teaching.
This is just one example of creative methods the schools are trying in an attempt to provide better prepared graduates to the workforce. The Richmond County Schools have a history on initiating new teaching methods. Tech Prep which is nationally recognized as an effective curriculum was created in Richmond County by local educators. Richmond County Schools continue to be a National Tech Prep Model and Demonstration site.
The administration has been visionary not only in the curriculum but also in the school facilities. Providing a comfortable and conducive learning environment has been established as a priority. Every school in Richmond County is air-conditioned and over $25 million has been invested in facility improvements.
